چکیده

Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn. cv. Huaizhi) fruit were stored at ambient temperature (20–25°C) for up to 7 days and at 4°C for up to 35 days for separation, purification and identification of individual phenolic compounds and investigation of their changes during postharvest storage. Results indicate that flavan-3-ol monomers and dimers were major phenolic compounds representing about 87.0% of the phenolic compounds that declined with storage or browning. Cyanidin-3-glucoside was a major anthocyanin and represented 91.9% of anthocyanins. It also declined with storage or browning. Small amounts of malvidin-3-glucoside were also found. Therefore, the major substrates for enzymatic oxidation were apparently flavan-3-ol monomers and dimers and cyanidin-3-glucoside. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Effects of Packaging and Low Temperature on Shelf Life and Quality of Litchi

Litchi is a non-climacteric fruit (Wills et al. 2004) and it deteriorates very fast after harvest. Various technologies have been devised to minimize the post-harvest losses of litchi, one of such technologies is the use of PP bag & low temperature. The objectives of the study were to evaluate the effects of thiLitchi is a non-climacteric fruit and it deteriorates very fast after harvest. Vario...

Lipofuscin-Like Substance Involved in Pericarp Browning of Postharvest Litchi Fruit During Storage

Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is a subtropical fruit of high commercial value in international trade. However, litchi fruit after harvest can rapidly lose their bright red skin color and turn brown with increasing storage time at ambient temperature. Postharvest browning of litchi fruit is mainly attributed to the degradation of anthocyanins and the oxidation of phenolics. In this study, the ...

The effect of carbamic acid, (1,2,3-thiadiazole-4-ylcarbonyl)-hexyl ester on Peronophythora litchii infection, quality and physiology of postharvest litchi fruits

BACKGROUND Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is a subtropical fruit with attractive characteristic of white to creamy semitranslucent flesh and red color in pericap, but it was easily subjected to the infection of Peronophythora litchii and lost its market values. Experiments were conducted to understand the effect of [Carbamic acid, (1,2,3-thiadiazole-4-ylcarbonyl)-hexyl ester, CTE] on the growt...

Effect of tea polyphenols on lipid peroxidation and antioxidant activity of litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) fruit during cold storage.

To understand the potential of application of tea polyphenols to the shelf life extension and quality maintenance of litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) fruit, the fruits were dipped into a solution of 1% tea phenols for 5 min before cold storage at 4 °C. Changes in browning index, contents of anthocyanins and phenolic compounds, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activities, O2.- prod...

Effect of pyrogallol on the physiology and biochemistry of litchi fruit during storage

UNLABELLED BACKGROUND Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) fruit are highly perishable and have a very short shelf life, easily turning brown and decaying. This study investigated the efficiency of pyrogallol, a catechin on the physiology and biochemistry in relation to storage life of litchi fruit. RESULTS Fruit were treated with pyrogallol at 1 mM and then stored at ambient temperature (25°C)...
